Things to See and Do in Galle

Galle is one of the most interesting places to visit in Sri Lanka. The town was founded in the 16th century when it was overtaken by the Portuguese seamen who landed there after a storm in the sea. It was taken over by the Dutch in 1640 and later by the British in the 18th century who fortified the city that the Dutch had built. Today, Galle is the capital city of the Southern Province in Sri Lanka and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The main attraction is the 300 year old Dutch Fort but there are other places as well that you can visit. The road to Galle is a coastal one offering stunning views on the way. You can take a tuk-tuk to go around; however, since the town is a small one, you can also walk around to get a better feel of the place.
