Tander takes pole for V8 finale

Garth Tander gave Holden Racing Team its first V8 Supercars pole position since Barbagallo in May as he topped qualifying for the season finale in Sydney. In what was by far HRT's strongest qualifying performance of 2012, Tander beat Ford Performance Racing's Will Davison to pole, while the resurgent James Courtney put the second factory Holden third. Champion Jamie Whincup will start back in 24th, having lost his best qualifying time when he caused one of the session's three red flags by spinning into Turn 7 and knocking the tyre stack into the road
